  1. A crying baby can damage your hearing permanently. Ear damage can occur at 85 decibels and a baby can cry at levels up to 90 decibels.
  2. For about six to seven months after birth, a baby can breathe at the same time. This ability was beneficial in the watery environment of the womb.
  3. We can almost unlimited distances, depending on the light coming from the object. Five planets are visible with the human eye- Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. But it’s a myth that the Great Wall of China can be seen from space.
  4. The heart is not on the left side of our chests. Imagine a line drawn down the middle of your body, most of your heart is on the right side of the line. Only the top of the heart is on the left. The heart is not straight up and down, in our bodies, but on an angle.
  5. On average, you lose about 200 hairs per day.
  6. Fewer boys than girls, are conceived during times of severe social stress, such as earthquake, tsunamis, and political or social upheaval. The theory is that natural selection favours females when times are hard, as they have a better chance than males of mating successfully.
  7. The body’s cells renew at different rates. Brain cells are with you from birth. Bone cells renew after 10 years and skin cells every 14 days.
  8. Everyone is colour blind at birth, and babies don’t manufacture tears during their first month of life.
  9. The average person has 10,000 tastebuds. The life span of a tastebud is seven to 10 days. By age 60, we’ve lost half our tastebuds.
  10. The brain doesn’t feel pain. That’s why brain surgery can be done while a patient is conscious. Headache pain originates from nerves, muscles and tissues outside the brain.
